On July 6, 2018 a tanker train full of liquid ammonia slowly departed from the platform of Zhanjiang Port Petrochemical Terminal Co., Ltd., which marks the complete restart of Zhanjiang MIC ChemEnergy Co., Ltd.'s liquid ammonia train loading and unloading business after being suspended for 4 years. It becomes the only company in China that has the capacity to provide liquid ammonia train loading and unloading service.
It is understood that Zhanjiang MIC ChemEnergy Co., Ltd. was founded in 2000 as a sister company of the Russia's TogliattiAzot (TOAZ Group) and in partnership with Zhanjiang Port Group , specializing in liquid ammonia storage service. It has safely operated in the petrochemical storage zone of Zhanjiang Port for 16 years. At present the company has two 30,000m³ cryogenic storage tanks, two 2,000m³ normal temperature spherical tanks, one 50,000 ton operating berth, one 25,000 ton operating berth, 27 train loading/unloading platforms and 4 truck loading/unloading docks, with an annual turnover capacity up to 600,000 tons. It is the largest single product storage operation in Asia and provides the most comprehensive transportation service.
It is reported that the company has effectively improved the safety operation of its train loading/unloading and transportation of liquid ammonia and opened up transportation channels with the transport costs reduced and turnover capacity increased. This is of great significance to MIC and the entire Zhanjiang Port, which has laid a solid foundation for building the Zhanjiang Port into the liquid ammonia distribution center in South China in the near future.
